To sell my TV show, should I shoot a "Proof of Concept?"

Before I answer this very common question, I need to preface it with a disclaimer:

I am not an indie filmmaker. I’ve sold two studio films (both to 20th Century Fox) but that’s very different from being an indie filmmaker.

All of my professional experience comes from being a television writer working for the major studios. So if that’s the world you want to play in — the studio system — my answer is for you.

Sadly, I couldn’t find a stock photo for “Proof of Concept.” This will have to do.
