Once a week, I host a group consulting session for emerging writers. I hear their ideas and give guidance.
The beauty of doing these sessions is that hearing their struggles provides me with new topics for Substack content. Last week in particular provided me with an incredibly helpful subject, that, up until now, hadn’t occurred to me to talk about.
The writer was pitching their idea for a cop movie. The hero was a detective and he had a foil who was trying to undermine him. The problem was that this foil worked in a completely different department.
I suggested making him his partner. This would make the story not just easier to write, but also more compelling. How?
