How to make it in Hollywood without an agent
Advice from a TV writer/showrunner
Every aspiring screenwriter wants an agent. With an agent, you can get pitch meetings, have your script submitted to be considered for a TV writing staff, and have a professional negotiate your deals.
However, there’s something you should know.
Yes, agents are important. They can bring great value to your career, but agents are middlemen. And like all middlemen…
Agents aren’t necessary.
Your local supermarket is a middleman. They facilitate sales between farmers and consumers. But if you’re a farmer, you do not need to sell your fruits and vegetables to supermarkets.
You can open a booth at a farmers market and sell directly to your customer.
It requires more work. But it also means more profit. Same with Hollywood.
