How are new showrunner's picked when the old showrunner leaves the show?
Advice from a TV writer/showrunner
I’ve been a television writer for twenty-eight years. For seven of them, my writing partner and I served as showrunners. It’s a very difficult job with a ton of responsibility and we did it on three different shows.
(HOLD FOR APPLAUSE)
Interestingly, we didn’t create any of these shows. They were created by writers with much less experience. The studios brought us on board because they needed someone in charge who knew what they were doing.
When they couldn’t find that person, they hired us.
But how is a new showrunner picked when the old showrunner leaves the show?
