There’s a subculture on TikTok (and Instagram) of creators who do nothing but talk about the books they’ve read. They’re reviewers, and some of them wield a lot of power with the major publishers. Getting them to talk about a book can really drive sales.
They’re the new gatekeepers in the world of publishing.
When I was launching my book, A Paper Orchestra, I reached out to dozens of them. I introduced myself as a successful television writer, mentioned some of the shows I’d written for, and offered to send them a free copy of my book — no strings attached.
You’d think that given my background in television, people might take notice, right?
So what were my results?
